I heard a colleague speak recently on a hospital in MO that was trying to reduce medical problems by improving individual health.  But they didn’t stop there, recognizing that individual health (and many of society’s problems, I might add) are caused by factors such as: stress, anger, poverty, economics, education levels, depression, unemployment, broken families, environmental factors, emptiness, loneliness, hopelessness and disconnectedness.

Now I ask you, how many leaders in the US are really trying to deal with problems at this level?  And if they did, what do you believe the impact to be?

The organization is Hearthland Health, based on St. Joseph MO.  You can download a summary of their Baldrige application here.  Spread the word … our political leaders either don’t have a clue or don’t care, or both.
